NOISE IMPACT ASSESSMENTS

FDIs assessments provide all the necessary information for clients to access multiple vendors to address their individual needs for noise control products and solutions. As an independent acoustical consulting firm, FDI has no alliances with equipment manufacturers or installers and suppliers of noise control products. FDIs acoustical consultants provide independent, practical, cost effective, noise control solutions.

SOUND MONITORING SURVEYS

FDI Acoustics Inc. uses instrumentation that fulfills all industry standards and all regulatory requirements to measure sound environments. The instrumentation is configured to produce CD quality audio recordings using 24 Bit sound recording technology. This allows for accurate interpretation of sound events that occur throughout the measurement period and affords the opportunity for clients, if desired, to listen themselves to better understand the sound environment. There are three types of Sound Monitoring Surveys: Comprehensive, Ambient, and Baseline.

NOISE CONTROL

FDI understands the need for balanced, cost-effective noise control. There is no benefit to issuing recommendations that are impractical in either cost or performance. Ideally, noise control is best considered during the design phase of a project. Retro-fitting, although necessary in some situations, can be costly not only for the necessary noise mitigation measures but in lost time and production to accommodate the installation process.

AGGREGATE PLANT NOISE

Noise is an inevitable consequence of the working of minerals and is an important health and safety consideration for those working on the site. Whether it becomes “environmental noise” depends on whether it disrupts or disturbs people outside the site boundary.

TRANSPORTATION NOISE ANALYSIS

FDI’s transportation noise analysis and noise impact assessment capabilities include transportation noise analysis, along with short- or long-term traffic noise monitoring studies, noise prediction modeling for existing and new traffic corridors and light rail transit (LRT).

OCCUPATIONAL NOISE CONTROL

In Alberta, Part 16 of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code details the noise exposure limits for employees together with noise exposure levels requiring hearing protection. Hearing Protection regulations are governed by the Workers Compensation Board and the Department of Labor.
